Is Kerala Government Depending On Private Sector?
Its quite easily understood that Kerala government has no way to meet the challenge of inadequate infrastructure. Its Financial situation is so bad, they have to depend solely on private sector and encourage them. I am sure that we can find required resources from non-resident Keralites. But they are hesitating to invest in Kerala because they lack confidence. They fail to invest in productive ventures, if at all they do, they only invest in small real estate deals or just send as normal consumers.
If the government succeeds in redirecting investments from NRIs accounts, we may find enough resources for infrastructure development in Kerala. So far there has been no scientific thinking on how to utilize such funds. Cochin International Airport Ltd has proved to be a success and is today considered a model for infrastructure development. It has a 26 percent government equity participation that ensures government responsibility for the project. But majority shares are owned by private individuals and that makes them more confident in investing in the venture. The state is now trying to promote similar ventures. For all these to happen – “Political stability is the Key Factor”.
