Yesterday Google announced its first ever handset with the android operating system. The phone has been named T Mobile G1 and has all the major applications like google maps, gmail, youtube and many more. It comes with both full and touch screen functionality. The Google phone is currently estimated at $179 and will be available in stores from Oct 22.

Since the phone is based on the android platform, any programmer gets access to the code and can completely edit the whole or even write his own code. The android runs a variety of softwares – Even files created using Microsoft word and Excel can be opened using the G1.

The Google phone also has instant messaging support for all the popular instant messengers like Gtalk, yahoo messenger, AOL and Windows Live Messenger. The phone also comes with a 3 megapixel camera which might attract a major portion of the phone users.
