- Make a schedule of all activities including homework, games from morning to night.
- Display the Schedule prominently and make any changes well in advance
- Make simple rules and stick to them. If necessary write them down with a penalty for breaking them.
- Make sure that your instructions are specific like ‘put your toys away’ instead of ‘clean the room’.
- Keep the child’s things – clothes, bags, shoes in their own place.
- Involve them in little chores and praise them when task is done.
- Look at the efforts, not the marks when school work is concerned.
- Teach the child to write down homework and to bring home the required books.
- Don’t lose your temper. Give small rewards for good behavior or following rules consistently.
- Give the child a boost at what the child is talented at.
- Most important, keep communication lines with the child open.
